Raipur: Ahead of Raksha Bandhan, the Chhattisgarh government has given women enrolled under the Mahtari Vandana Yojana a reason to smile. The government has released the 31st instalment of the scheme, with eligible women receiving rs 1,000 directly in their bank accounts.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai released the instalment on August 25, 2026, during an event in Balod district. The payment has been brought forward so that beneficiaries can get the money around Raksha Bandhan instead of waiting for the usual payment cycle.
The Mahtari Vandana Yojana provides rs 1,000 every month to eligible women in Chhattisgarh. The money is sent directly to beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, meaning there is no need to collect the payment in person.
Who Gets the rs 1,000?
The scheme currently covers eligible married, widowed, divorced and abandoned women living in Chhattisgarh. For married women, the applicant must generally be 21 years or older as of January 1 of the application year, along with meeting the other conditions laid down under the scheme.
The government introduced the scheme with the broader aim of providing women with regular financial support and helping them become more financially independent. The monthly amount can also be useful for household expenses, children’s needs and other day to day requirements.
What If You Already Receive a Pension?
There is a provision for women who receive less than rs 1,000 under certain social security pension schemes. In such cases, the Mahtari Vandana benefit can make up the difference.
For example, if an eligible woman receives rs 600 as a pension, she may receive rs 400 under Mahtari Vandana, taking her total monthly support to rs 1,000, subject to the scheme’s applicable rules.
Government May Expand the Scheme
The government is also considering expanding the scheme to cover additional categories, including unmarried women with disabilities, transgender persons and women above 40 years of age. However, these changes are part of a proposal and should not be treated as final until officially approved.
How to Check Your Payment
Women who want to know whether their latest instalment has been processed can check their application and payment status through the official Mahtari Vandana Yojana portal. Beneficiaries can use details such as their beneficiary number, registered mobile number or Aadhaar number to check the status.
For thousands of families, the early release of the instalment comes at a useful time, giving eligible women some extra financial support as Raksha Bandhan approaches.
