Colombo: India appeared on course to complete a 2-0 whitewash of Sri Lanka by winning the second Test as well on Wednesday evening, but the unbeaten pair of Sonal Dinusha (52 runs) and Keshara Nuwantha (40 runs) have now become a headache for India’s bowlers with an unbeaten 101-run partnership.
At the time this report was being written, Sri Lanka’s score in the second innings was 319 for six. After India had taken a 213-run lead, Sri Lanka were reduced to 107 for six.
At one stage on Wednesday evening, after Sri Lanka were forced to follow on, India had reduced their deficit of 213 runs and then Sri Lanka were struggling at six wickets down for just five runs. They had ended the day at 6/16 after the deficit had been wiped out.
Although rain has not yet disrupted play on the final day today, Sri Lanka’s tail-end batters have become a headache for India.
Even if rain does not cause any interruptions today, India will have to bowl Sri Lanka out quickly so that they are left with a manageable target to chase.
