From Internet to Cereals, Government poses 33 questions to ask every Household

New Delhi : The Union Government has listed out 33 questions that will be asked to citizens starting from April 1. The first phase of Census 2027 will take place in a span of 30 days directed by the State and Union Territory between April 1 and September 30 this year.

The gazette notification issued by registrar general of India Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan listed questions ranging from housing materials and amenities to the number of married couples and the sex of the household head. The questionnaire will include questions such as the ownership of the house, its use, the type of material used in the roof and what type of tiles are used and the gender of the head of the family. Following which there will be questions related to the housing condition, head counts residing in that house and for what purpose is the house utilized for, other than that the basic questions such as the name, gender, occupation, caste and ownership status will be asked.

Questions related to the basic amenities of the house, such as light set up, main source of drinking water, access to lavatory, accessibility to bathing, kitchen availability, what kind of gas do you make use of whether it is LPG or PNG? Is it via pipeline or manually? Which is the main fuel utilised for cooking in the house ?

The data collector will also collect information regarding how familiar you are with the technology by asking about your communication devices such as do you have internet, wifi, a smart phone or a mobile phone, landline or do you make use of a radio/ transistor or computer, laptop, Mac etc. Moving on to which the questionnaire will also consist of whether you have a vehicle? If so, what type and kind of vehicle do you have? Cereals consumed by the family. Each and every detail will be collected by the enumerator.

Other than people visiting and collecting your data, citizens are also given a self-enumeration option that can be done in a 15 days period prior to the houselisting operations of 30 days.

The census will be conducted in 2 phases as per the gazette notification wherein housing and house listing will be carried out between April to September and population census will be done in February 2027.
