New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced its Class 12 results on May 13, 2026, introducing a bold new system poised to benefit students if executed transparently. A student-friendly refund provision under the newly launched On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for Class 12 board examinations has been initiated. This follows student protests against the digital evaluation system, which many claimed resulted in lower-than-expected marks.
In a post on X, the CBSE stated: “Students whose marks increase after re-evaluation will receive a full refund, reinforcing transparency, fairness, and accountability in the evaluation process.” Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, expressed this during a press conference on Sunday.
“If, during the scrutiny process, a student’s marks increase or are revised upward, we will refund the entire amount paid by them for the re-evaluation,” Kumar announced.
He also detailed the revised fee structure: “We will charge a fee of ₹100 for students who wish to view their answer sheets; a separate fee of ₹100 applies if they wish to have their papers validated; and a fee of ₹25 applies for the re-checking of any specific question.”
Student welfare, transparency and fairness remain at the core of every evaluation reform.

The board emphasized that this re-evaluation mechanism provides students with a transparent, structured process to review their evaluated answer scripts. The system ensures that students can access their scanned copies before initiating requests for verification or re-assessment. The board reiterated that the verification, rechecking, and re-evaluation processes are designed to uphold accuracy through expert review, enabling informed decisions based on subject-wise marking schemes while ensuring the timely communication of outcomes.
Online applications to obtain scanned copies of answer books will open tomorrow, May 19, 2026, and last until May 22. The application window for verification and re-evaluation will be open from May 26 to May 29, 2026.
