Nainital : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered a significant victory in the municipal corporation elections in Himachal Pradesh, winning three out of the four civic bodies where results were declared on Sunday. The party captured Mandi, Dharamshala and Solan, while the Congress retained control of the Palampur Municipal Corporation. According to ANI, the outcome is being viewed as an important political development in the state.
Dharamshala Delivers Strong Mandate to BJP
In Dharamshala, the BJP secured a commanding performance by winning 11 of the 17 wards in the Municipal Corporation. The Congress won five wards, while one seat went to an Independent candidate.
Reacting to the result, BJP MLA Sudheer Sharma said the verdict reflected public anger against the Congress government and growing support for the BJP. He described the outcome as a rejection of the policies and governance of the Congress-led administration headed by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
Sudheer Sharma Targets State Government
Speaking after the victory, Sharma claimed that voters had expressed dissatisfaction with the functioning of the state government through the electoral process. He alleged that the Congress administration had failed to adequately address concerns related to employees, youth, women, traders and the wider public.
According to ANI, Sharma also said the result demonstrated increasing confidence among voters in the BJP and its leadership.
BJP Leaders Call Results a Verdict Against Congress
The BJP leadership interpreted the municipal election results as a sign of public displeasure with the ruling Congress government. Party leaders argued that the victories across key urban local bodies highlighted support for the BJP’s political agenda in the state.
ANI reported that BJP leaders maintained the results reflected a broader shift in public sentiment, particularly in urban areas, ahead of future electoral contests in Himachal Pradesh.
Congress Retains Palampur
Despite setbacks in other municipal corporations, the Congress managed to hold on to the Palampur Municipal Corporation. However, the party was unable to prevent BJP gains in Dharamshala, Solan and Mandi, where the opposition party secured decisive victories.
The municipal election outcomes are expected to influence the political narrative in Himachal Pradesh as both major parties prepare for future elections.
