New Delhi: A fresh rift within the Opposition has erupted after the Aam Aadmi Paty (AAP) accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of diluting the ongoing CJP led students movement by turning it into a political showdown. The remarks have sparked criticism from activists, opposition supporters and several observers,who argue that the focus should remain on students demand instead of political blame games.
The controversy unfolded a day after Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior party leaders, marched towards Prime Minister Narendra modi residence to protest against the alleged police crackdown on students. The demonstration ended with Gandhi and several Congress Leaders being detained before later being released.
What Triggered The Row?
AAP alleged that Rahul Gandhi’s decision to lead a high profile protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence shifted attention away from the original purpose of the CJP movement. According to the party, the protest was meant to amplify students concerns over alleged examination irregularities and education reforms, but Congress’s intervention gave the BJP an opportunity to portray it as an Opposition driven campaign rather than a people’s movement.
Congress, however, rejected the criticism, maintaining that its protest was aimed at standing in solidarity with students and demanding accountability from the Centre over the police action.
