Ration Card Will No Longer Serve as Identity or Address Proof, Not Valid for Opening Bank Accounts | Check Details

Lakhs of ration card holders in Gujarat have received an important update from the state government. The Department of Food and Civil Supplies has made a key decision stating that ration cards will no longer be accepted as proof of identity or address.

With this change, citizens will not be able to use their ration card for services such as opening a bank account, obtaining a mobile SIM card, or availing government schemes that require identity verification. To access these services, individuals must now present other valid documents like Aadhaar cards, passports, or voter ID cards.

Officials have clarified that the move is intended to prevent misuse of ration cards and to ensure that the document serves its primary purpose ensuring the proper distribution of food grains to poor and needy families.
