Kharge Slams BJP’s Takeover Of Gandhian Institutions, Says Congress Derived Max Strength From Gujarat

He Says That It Is Ridiculous That People From RSS Are Claiming Sardar Patel's Legacy

Recently, in the session of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) in Ahmedabad, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge lashed out at BJP and RSS. He alleged that a well planned conspiracy is being worked out against the national heroes since the last few years. He said that Sardar Patel was against the ideology of RSS, and it is ridiculous that people from the organization are claiming Sardar Patel’s legacy in today’s time.

Kharge mentioned about taking inspiration from the land of Gandhi and Sardar. He also claimed that communal divisions are diverting attention from the fundamental issues of the country. Apart from that, dictatorships are being established across the country.

The meeting of the working committee has been organized at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial. Kharge said that the current year marks the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi becoming the Congress President. Mahatma Gandhi became the President at the Belgaum Congress Session in Kharge’s home state, Karnataka. This centenary ceremony was celebrated on December 26 in Karnataka.

Putting emphasis on the strength of the organization, Kharge stated that the ideology needs to be taken forward. Three great personalities, Mahatma Gandhi, Dadabhai Naoroji, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel were born on the soil of Gujarat and served as presidents of the Congress Party. Gandhiji gave us the weapon of truth and non-violence against injustice. This weapon is so powerful that nothing can stand against it.

On the other hand, talking about Sardar Patel, Kharge said that it is the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel this year. Jawaharlal Nehru called him the founder of India’s unity. His 150th birth anniversary will be celebrated across the country.

Kharge added that Gandhiji and Sardar Patel played an important role in making Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar a member of the Constituent Assembly. Babasaheb himself had mentioned in his last speech in the Constituent Assembly on November 25 1949, that without the support of the Congress, the Constitution could not have been made.

When the Constitution was made, the RSS had criticized Gandhiji, Pt. Nehru, Dr. Ambedkar , and the Congress. The effigies of these leaders were burnt in the Ramlila Maidan, along with the Constitution. The Constitution also said not to take inspiration from humanist ideals.

The Home Minister mocked Babasaheb in the Rajya Sabha, saying that people keep chanting Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar; if they had taken the name of God like this, they would have received heaven for the next seven births. The Congress Party respects both the Constitution and its makers, and knows how to protect it.

Attacking the BJP and the RSS, Kharge said that from the last several years, a conspiracy is being hatched against the national heroes. An atmosphere is being created against the Congress Party, which has a glorious history of service and struggle in the country for 140 years. This work is being done by people who have nothing to show for their own achievements or contribution in the freedom struggle. They are conspiring to show the relationship between Sardar Patel and Pt. Nehru in a way as if they were in opposition to each other. But the truth is that they were two sides of the coin. All the incidents and documents are a testimony to their harmonious relationship. On October 14, 1949, Sardar Patel had said that no one other than him knew the hard work Nehruji had done for the country for the last 2 difficult years. Everyone saw him growing old very quickly due to the heavy responsibilities. Sardar Patel’s ideology was the opposite to the ideas of RSS. He had banned the RSS.

It evokes laughter when the people of that organization claim the legacy of Sardar Patel. Sardar Patel lives in our hearts and thoughts. Today, the people of RSS and BJP are capturing the institution associated with Gandhiji and handing it over to their opponents. Sarva Seva Sangh and Gujarat Vidyapith are examples of this. Gandhian people and people of the cooperative movement are being marginalized. People with such thoughts can steal Gandhi’s glasses and stick, but they cannot follow his ideals. Gandhiji’s ideological legacy is with Congress.

The Congress President while addressing the meeting, said that Gujarat is the first state from which Congress has gained the highest strength in its 140-year history. Today the party members have come here to draw inspiration and strength. Their real strength is the unity and integrity of the country, and the ideology of social justice. In order to take this ideology forward, it is necessary to strengthen oneself and the organization.
