Gujarat Weather: Five Rain Systems active Simultaneously; Heavy Showers Likely over Saurashtra and South Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Gujarat’s monsoon season is gathering pace, with South Gujarat and the coastal belt of Saurashtra witnessing intense rainfall over the past 24 hours. According to the latest data from the India Meteorological Department, the Union Territory of Daman recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 132.8 mm, leaving low-lying areas waterlogged.

The weather department said the simultaneous activation of five separate rainfall systems across the region has raised the likelihood of widespread rain across Gujarat in the coming days.

Authorities told to stay on alert

IMD Director A.K. Das said a heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Surat, Bharuch, Navsari, Valsad, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Vadodara, Tapi, Dang, Anand, Panchmahal and Chhotaudepur districts today. Rain is also expected in Saurashtra’s Porbandar, Junagadh and Bhavnagar, with Gir Somnath forecast to see extremely heavy rainfall. Local authorities have been instructed to remain on high alert.

Department urges caution

Rajkot and Amreli are likely to see extremely heavy rain today, while Jamnagar, Dwarka and Botad will also see rainfall activity. The state capital, Ahmedabad, is expected to receive light to moderate showers.

The IMD has advised fishermen against venturing into the sea and urged residents of low-lying areas to remain cautious. Meanwhile, the intensifying rainfall across the state has brought relief and cheer among farmers.
