Monsoon Arrives in Gujarat: Set to Cover Entire State in 2-3 days, Heavy Rain Alert For Saurashtra, South Gujarat

Ahmedabad: The Meteorological Department has issued its forecast for the next seven days, stating that the southwest monsoon has entered Gujarat today, June 24, and is expected to spread across the entire state within the next two to three days. Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning has been forecast for Saurashtra and South Gujarat today.

As of June 24, the southwest monsoon has advanced into the northeastern Arabian Sea, Gujarat, parts of Madhya Pradesh, the remaining parts of Maharashtra, and some areas of Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand. Conditions over the next two to three days are favourable for further advancement into the northern Arabian Sea, more parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, as well as Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

Yellow alert for South Gujarat, Saurashtra

A yellow alert has been issued for South Gujarat and Saurashtra due to an active cyclonic circulation and trough line. Heavy rainfall is expected particularly in Surat, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Dang and Daman-Dadra Nagar Haveli in South Gujarat, along with Amreli and Bhavnagar districts in Saurashtra. Light to moderate rain is expected statewide between June 24 and 30.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely, with wind speeds expected to reach 40 to 50 kmph. Coastal areas of South Gujarat could see wind speeds rise to 60 kmph with rough sea conditions, prompting authorities to advise fishermen against venturing into the sea.

Ahmedabad is expected to remain generally cloudy, with light to moderate rain showers accompanied by thunderstorms. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 40.4 degrees Celsius yesterday, and today’s temperature is likely to hover between 40 and 41 degrees Celsius.

Rain forecast for these districts today

Light to moderate rain is expected at scattered locations today, June 24, in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Mehsana, Aravalli, Kheda and Dahod districts. Several areas in Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Dang and Tapi districts in South Gujarat could also see rainfall.

Valsad records highest rainfall

According to rainfall data recorded over the past 24 hours, South Gujarat has received the heaviest showers, with Valsad district leading the tally. Umargam taluka in Valsad recorded the highest rainfall at 4.33 inches, while Kaprada received 1.46 inches and Vapi recorded 1.42 inches.

Additionally, Ahwa-Dang in Dang district recorded 3.07 inches of rain, while Ukai in Tapi received 1.1 inches. Light to moderate showers have also continued across talukas including Mandvi, Areth, Mangrol and Umarpada in Surat district, and Chikhli, Gandevi, Navsari and Jalalpore in Navsari district.

Saurashtra and parts of Central Gujarat also saw a healthy spell of rain. Gondal taluka in Rajkot district recorded 2.13 inches, while Kotda Sangani received 0.79 inches. Sagbara in Narmada district recorded 0.75 inches, while Jambughoda in Panchmahal and Kawant in Chhota Udepur each received 0.51 inches. Areas including Botad, Ranpur, and Savarkundla and Jafrabad in Amreli district saw light showers ranging from 0.04 to 0.31 inches.

Heavy rain warning for tomorrow too

The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall warning for tomorrow, June 25, for Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Dang and Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli in South Gujarat. Amreli and Bhavnagar districts are also likely to see heavy rain. Several areas across South Gujarat and Saurashtra can expect winds of 40 to 50 kmph along with thunder, lightning and rain.
