New Delhi: The Supreme Court has stepped in to prevent tensions from escalating in the ongoing dispute within the Kapur family over the RK Family Trust linked to late businessman Sunjay Kapur’s estate.
During the latest hearing, the court advised Sunjay Kapur’s mother, Rani Kapur, and his wife, Priya Kapur, not to take any action that could interferewith the mediation process currently underway. The bench stressed that both sides should maintain restraint while efforts are being made to settle the matter peacefully.
The dispute revolves around the RK Family Trust and the control of key family assets and business interests. Rani Kapur has questioned the validity of the trust structure and alleged that certain documents connected to it were created improperly. Priya Kapur, on the other hand, remains involved in matters related to the family’s business holdings.
To avoid a lengthy coutroom battle, the Supreme Court had earlier referred the matter to mediation and appointed former Cheif Justice of India D.Y Chandrachud to oversee the discussions between the two sides. The court also indicated that public statement or moves that could complicate negotiations should be avoided until mediation is complete.
The case has attracted significant attention because of the family’s businees background and the scale of assets involved. For now, the Supreme Court appears focused on ensuring that both parties work towards a negotiated settlement rather than deepening the conflict through fresh legal or public confrontations.
