71st National Film Awards: Rani Mukerji wins Best Actress for ‘Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway’ in Her First National Award Win

New Delhi: Rani Mukerji made history at the 71st National Film Awards as she received her first-ever National Award for Best Actress. Honoured for her powerful portrayal in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway, the milestone added another shining chapter to her nearly 30-year-long career.
Rani Mukerji’s Elegant Look at The Ceremony
Elegant in a brown silk saree with a golden zari border, paired with a simple choker and minimal makeup, Rani stood out at the event held in Delhi. She accepted the award from President Droupadi Murmu and was warmly greeted by colleagues and admirers.
Seated in the front row, Rani shared the moment with her longtime co-star Shah Rukh Khan, who also won on the night. The two exchanged warm smiles, while Vikrant Massey, another awardee seated nearby, applauded the recognition of her milestone achievement.
Great Storytelling in ‘Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway’
Rani’s award-winning role in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway told the real-life story of an Indian mother in Norway whose children were taken away by local authorities after mistaking traditional parenting practices such as hand-feeding and co-sleeping for neglect. Her performance highlighted both the anguish and determination of the mother as she fought across borders and systems to reunite with her children. Critics praised Rani for her authentic and restrained portrayal of an immigrant’s struggles.
The evening also saw Shah Rukh Khan and Vikrant Massey sharing the Best Actor award for their performances in Jawan and 12th Fail respectively.
