Ahmedabad Sees Rain Under Dark Clouds; Yellow Alert Sounded for North, Central Gujarat and Saurashtra
Ahmedabad: With Gujarat’s monsoon system now active, rain set in across several parts of the state. Dark clouds gathered over Ahmedabad city as light drizzle followed the India Meteorological Department’s forecast, while in south Gujarat, heavy rain in Navsari and Surat disrupted daily life.
Rain across several areas of Ahmedabad
Under the Met department’s forecast of light to moderate rain, dark clouds gathered over Ahmedabad’s S.G. Highway, Vadaj, Thaltej, Ashram Road, Usmanpura and Income Tax areas today, followed by a slow drizzle. The rain cooled the air across the city.
71 roads shut for traffic in Navsari
Torrential rain in Navsari district, in south Gujarat, has flooded roads across the region. With water overtopping roads in several places, the district administration has closed 71 roads to traffic with immediate effect. Of these, Navsari taluka accounts for 19 closures, Chikhli 19, Jalalpore 6 and Khergam 4, all caused by overtopping and waterlogging. The closures also include one railway underpass and one road shut because it lacks a proper structure over a river.
Low-lying Surat areas flooded, Limbayat underpass shut
Continuous rain in Surat city has left several low-lying areas underwater. Traffic came to a complete halt at the Limbayat underpass after it filled with water, leaving motorists stranded.
Rain in Amreli’s Rajula and Jafrabad belt
Amreli district returned to rain in full force after a long dry spell. A slow drizzle began late at night in Rajula’s Hindorana, Kadiyali and Chhatadiya areas, as well as in Jafrabad and the coastal belt of Hemal, Nageshri and Vadhera. The rain brought coolness to the coastal region, cheering villagers and farmers.
Yellow alert for North, Central Gujarat and Saurashtra
The Met department has issued a Yellow Alert for Kutch, the whole of North Gujarat, Central Gujarat and the rest of Saurashtra, warning of moderate to heavy rain. With Yellow and Orange alerts in effect simultaneously across the state, authorities have asked citizens and fishermen to stay alert and avoid venturing into the sea.
