Former actress Somy Ali, once linked to Salman Khan, has publicly supported veteran actor Govinda after his wife Sunita Ahuja made sharp comments about his alleged closeness to co-star Komal Rani Swarnkar.
The controversy intensified when Govinda and Komal were spotted together at Mumbai airport. Sunita later referred to Govinda as Komal’s sugar daddy, questioned his association with a woman closer to his daughter’s age, and criticised the situation publicly. Govinda responded by asking her to stay within limits and objecting to the language used against him.
Somy Ali took to Instagram, sharing throwback pictures with Govinda and writing a detailed note. She described him as one of the greatest and most humble talents in the Hindi film industry, based on her personal and professional experience with him. While expressing respect for both Govinda and Sunita, she focused on defending his right to work.
“There is nothing ageist about an actor accepting a role with a younger actress. Talent doesn’t have an expiration date,” she wrote. Somy emphasised that an actor’s worth should be measured by talent, professionalism, and determination rather than age or the age of a co-star. She added that when work becomes harder to find, choosing to keep working deserves respect, not ridicule.
“Every actor deserves the chance to prove that they still have something meaningful to offer. Age should never become a weapon against someone who is simply trying to earn a living and continue doing what he loves,” she stated.
Somy’s comments shift attention from personal allegations to the broader issue of ageism in the industry. While the claims of any affair remain unproven, her support highlights the challenges senior actors face in continuing their careers.
