Mumbai: The Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) has introduced a round-the-clock grievance redressal mechanism for Indian seafarers, providing them with a dedicated platform to report complaints and seek assistance from anywhere in the world. The initiative is designed to ensure faster resolution of issues faced by seafarers while serving aboard ships.
The newly launched system, known as the e-Navik 24×7 Grievance Redressal Mechanism, enables seafarers to submit complaints at any time through an online platform. The move is intended to improve accessibility and transparency in addressing concerns related to employment, welfare, contractual matters and onboard working conditions.
Faster Resolution of Complaints
According to DG Shipping, the portal has been developed to provide a structured and efficient process for handling grievances raised by Indian seafarers. The mechanism allows complaints to be tracked digitally, helping authorities monitor progress and ensure timely action.
The 24×7 Grievance Redressal Mechanism extends support beyond seafarers to their families, ensuring accessible, transparent, and efficient grievance resolution through eNavik.

The maritime regulator has also made available user manuals for registered and unregistered users, allowing seafarers to access the service regardless of their registration status.
Focus on Safety and Welfare
The launch comes as part of broader efforts by DG Shipping to enhance the welfare and protection of Indian seafarers. In recent months, the regulator has introduced several measures aimed at safeguarding maritime workers, including actions against vessels accused of labour violations and advisories concerning deployment in conflict-prone regions.
Officials said the grievance portal will provide seafarers with a direct channel to seek support and report issues while working at sea, reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving conditions in the maritime sector.
Strengthening Maritime Governance
The 24×7 grievance mechanism is expected to strengthen communication between seafarers and regulatory authorities while ensuring greater accountability within the shipping industry. By offering an always-available digital platform, DG Shipping aims to make grievance handling more responsive and accessible for India’s large seafaring community.
As reported by Hindustan Times, the initiative marks a significant step towards modernising grievance redressal services and enhancing support systems for Indian seafarers across the globe.
