
Bengaluru: An Air India flight travelling from Delhi to San Francisco was forced to return to the national capital after remaining airborne for close to three hours following a technical issue during the journey.
According to a report by The Times of India, the aircraft had taken off as scheduled and was en route to San Francisco when the crew detected a problem that required the flight to head back to Delhi as a precautionary measure.
Over 230 People Were Onboard
The report stated that more than 230 passengers and crew members were onboard the flight at the time of the incident. The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and no injuries or safety concerns involving passengers were reported.
Air India later initiated necessary checks and inspections of the aircraft after its return to the airport.
Airline Arranges Alternative Travel Plans
Following the unexpected diversion, the airline reportedly began making alternative arrangements for passengers so they could continue their journey to San Francisco.
As cited by The Times of India, Air India also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to travellers because of the disruption.
Technical Issue Prompted Precautionary Return
The airline did not immediately disclose detailed information regarding the nature of the technical issue. However, the decision to return to Delhi was taken keeping passenger safety in mind.
The incident once again highlights how airlines follow precautionary protocols whenever any operational or technical irregularity is identified during long-haul international flights.
