Mumbai and its surrounding metropolitan region continued to swelter under intense summer conditions on Tuesday, despite a bright start to the day with mostly clear skies. According to forecasts, residents in Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai can expect sunny weather accompanied by afternoon breezes, with maximum temperatures likely reaching between 36°C and 38°C.
The city had already recorded 32°C by 9 am, underscoring the persistence of the heat even in the early hours. Air quality in Mumbai remained largely favourable during the morning, registering an overall AQI of 38 in the ‘good’ category, as per data from aqi.in. However, conditions varied across neighbourhoods. Juhu Scheme stood out with a ‘poor’ AQI reading of 157, while Sion recorded a ‘moderate’ level of 62 and Kannamwar Nagar Station 2 showed 57. The cleanest air was noted at Green Hills with an excellent AQI of 5.
Social media updates highlighted the oppressive feel of the heat. A post by Mumbai Rains indicated that the ‘feels-like’ temperature in Thane had surpassed 60°C the previous day. Within Mumbai itself, Borivali experienced a feels-like temperature of 47°C, Santacruz 45°C, and Chembur a staggering 55°C.
AccuWeather data confirms the forecast of sustained sunshine and warm conditions across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region for the day.

Broader Maharashtra Weather Outlook
While Mumbai endures the dry heat, other parts of Maharashtra are in for more dynamic conditions. The weather department has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph at isolated locations over South Madhya Maharashtra. In contrast, hot and humid weather is expected to prevail over pockets of Konkan and Goa, further intensifying discomfort for residents in those coastal areas.
The combination of high temperatures and varying humidity levels serves as a reminder that summer conditions remain firmly in place across much of the state, even as localised weather systems bring relief in specific inland districts.
This weather pattern aligns with typical late-spring behaviour in the region, where clear skies allow for rapid daytime heating while moisture from the Arabian Sea contributes to elevated humidity and discomfort indices in urban and coastal zones. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and limit outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours as the mercury continues its climb.
