Mumbai Doctor’s Tragic Leap from Atal Setu Prompts Search

On the evening of July 7, 2025, a 32-year-old doctor from Mumbai’s Sir JJ Hospital, identified as Dr. Omkar Kavitake, reportedly jumped into the sea from the Atal Setu bridge, according to Navi Mumbai police. The incident occurred shortly after Dr. Kavitake spoke with his mother, informing her he would be home for dinner. The bridge, known as the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, connects south Mumbai to Navi Mumbai.
The Navi Mumbai police were alerted at approximately 9:43 p.m. by a passerby who witnessed a man leaping from the bridge at the 11.8-kilometer mark on the Mumbai-bound lane, as reported. Officers from the Ulwe police station responded promptly, discovering Dr. Kavitake’s car parked on the bridge. An iPhone found inside the vehicle confirmed his identity. No suicide note was found, leaving the motive behind his actions unclear, as stated by Inspector Rajne.

Dr. Kavitake, a resident of Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai, had been employed at Sir JJ Hospital for six years, serving as a senior resident doctor. Prior to this, he worked as an ICU resident at Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital. Following the incident, a multi-agency search operation was launched, involving the police and the Marine Security Department’s Dhruvtara patrolling boat. As of July 9, 2025, the search for Dr. Kavitake continues, with no trace of him reported.
The incident has drawn significant attention, with ongoing efforts to locate the missing doctor.
