Ahmedabad: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a security guard at a residential building in Ahmedabad’s Bopal area on the morning of July 7. The incident came to light after the victim, the daughter of a domestic worker, informed her mother, who then approached the police.
According to police, the minor had gone to the building in place of her mother, who was unable to attend work that day. While heading to the 10th floor, the accused allegedly forced his way into the elevator and took her to the terrace on the 17th floor. There, he reportedly tied her hands, gagged her, and sexually assaulted her before fleeing.
The accused has been identified as 22-year-old Vinod Jatav, a resident of Shantipura and a native of Bharatpur, Rajasthan. He was arrested by Ahmedabad Rural Police and booked under sections of rape and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
SP Ahmedabad Rural Om Prakash Jat said, “We nabbed the accused just as he was about to run off from his house,” he added. “We’ve also recovered the dupatta used to tie the girl’s hands. Medical examination of the girl is complete, and we’ve gathered all necessary forensic evidence.”
Preliminary investigation revealed that Jatav had arrived in Ahmedabad two months ago and was working with a private security agency. He had recently been assigned to the building where the incident occurred. Further investigation is underway.
