Mumbai: Arijit Singh may finally be watching Bigg Boss and he has his old friend Qazi Touqeer to thank for it. The singer recently showed his support for Qazi, who is currently a contestant on Bigg Boss 20, calling him his “rockstar” and saying he would have to watch the show for the first time because his friend is inside the house.
Arijit shared the message on X, writing, “I will have to watch Bigg Boss for the first time because apna rockstar Qazi hai udhar.” The simple post has brought back memories of the two singers’ early days in the entertainment industry.
For those who may not remember, Arijit and Qazi go way back. The two were contestants on the popular singing reality show Fame Gurukul in 2005. Qazi eventually won the show along with Ruprekha Banerjee, while Arijit’s journey ended before the final. Almost 21 years later, both have taken very different paths in the industry, but their friendship appears to have remained intact.
Earlier this year, Qazi gave fans a glimpse of that friendship when he visited Arijit’s hometown, Jiaganj, in West Bengal. The two were seen riding around on a scooter, meeting people and even playing cricket. Qazi also spoke warmly about Arijit, praising him for remaining grounded despite becoming one of the biggest singers in the country.
Qazi has described Arijit as a “genius” and said the singer does not carry jealousy or insecurity towards others. His comments gave fans a rare look at the bond between two people who knew each other long before Arijit became a household name.
Now Qazi is back in the reality TV spotlight with Bigg Boss 20. The show premiered on September 6 with Salman Khan as host, and Qazi has already attracted attention inside the house for his outspoken personality, singing and clashes with fellow contestants.
Qazi is perhaps best remembered for winning Fame Gurukul. He later continued working in music and also lent his voice to “Afghan Jalebi” from the 2015 film Phantom.
For viewers, Qazi’s Bigg Boss journey is already becoming interesting. But with Arijit Singh himself saying he plans to watch the show, the old Fame Gurukul friendship has given Qazi’s comeback an extra dose of nostalgia and plenty of attention.
