Mumbai: Heartbreaking and mysterious details continue to emerge from the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, which claimed the lives of over 270 people including crews. Among the deceased was 23-year-old talented cricketer Dirgh Patel.

Dirgh Patel, originally from Gujarat, was one of the 242 passengers traveling to London. Only one passenger survived. According to a well-known broadcasting company in England and the Airedale and Wharfedale Senior Cricket League, Dirgh Patel was a player for the Leeds Modernians Cricket Club in mid-2024. He had scored 312 runs in 20 innings and taken 29 wickets.

The news of his death left club officials, members, and fellow players in deep shock. They expressed their condolences to Dirgh’s family and prayed that God gives them strength in this difficult time.

According to a report, a spokesperson from Airedale mentioned that Dirgh had planned to return to cricket after settling into his new job.

Dirgh Patel had pursued his education at the University of Huddersfield, where he completed his Master’s in Artificial Intelligence (AI). He achieved top grades in his course.

One of the university professors stated:

“Dirgh Patel was well-known at our university for both his academic talent and his cricketing skills. He was popular among everyone. He always showed enthusiasm for learning. The questions he asked during studies reflected his intelligence.”

Dirgh Patel’s brother Kritik had earlier played for Pool Cricket Club. After the tragic incident in Ahmedabad, both clubs observed a one-minute silence before their first matches as a mark of respect.
