According to a BCCI source, Team India may send a “B” team to the next Asian Games cricket competition because the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the BCCI are unhappy with the facilities and arrangements in Japan. The Asian Games will begin in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on September 19.
The dates of the women’s and men’s cricket competitions are September 17–22 and September 24–October 3, respectively. An observer from the BCCI may be sent to Japan because the board and ACC are dissatisfied with the facilities and arrangements for cricket players there, a BCCI source told ANI.
BCCI may think about sending a “B” team to the competition if the facilities are deemed inadequate.
“BCCI and ACC are not satisfied with the facilities and arrangements in Japan, and the board will send an observer there,” the source told news agency ANI. We will get the observer’s report, and if the arrangements are insufficient, we might think about sending a backup team.
“In an ACC meeting, we informed Japan Olympic officials that the players were in an unsatisfactory condition because the dressing rooms were put up in tents and the restrooms were only 500 meters from those tents. The hotel rooms’ tiny size is another major issue.”
In the previous edition, which took place in Hangzhou, China, in 2023, Team India won a gold medal. After the final was canceled, the victors were determined by their superior seeding over Afghanistan.
For the competition, they have selected a full-strength lineup that includes famous pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, captain Shreyas Iyer, and the left-handed batting quintet of Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan, and Tilak Varma.
