Mumbai Rains: Viral Video Shows Loco Pilot Halting Local Train For Stray Dog On Kurla Tracks

Mumbai: Heavy rainfall continued to disrupt Mumbai’s local train network this week, and amid the slower-than-usual services, a video from Kurla railway station has caught the internet’s attention for a different reason altogether — a stray dog stuck on the tracks and a train that stopped for it.
The clip shows the dog wandering onto the railway tracks as a Mumbai local train approached the platform. The loco pilots honked repeatedly, apparently trying to scare the animal off the tracks, but the dog stayed put.
A man is then seen climbing down onto the tracks to try and chase the dog to safety. The animal, visibly frightened, appeared defensive and didn’t immediately move. The video cuts off at that point, leaving viewers unsure of what happened next — and worried about the dog.
Social media users say the dog was safe
The clip’s ending prompted a wave of concerned comments, several of which claimed the dog was eventually rescued.
One user wrote that they were present at the scene on a Thursday night and tried to help the dog themselves, but it reacted aggressively. They said the loco pilot slowed the train down and kept it moving cautiously until the dog found its way off the tracks safely.
Another commenter said they’d heard secondhand through a relative who knew someone on the train that the loco pilot didn’t move the train until the dog was clear of the tracks and had been helped to safety by a bystander.
A third user speculated, based on the dog’s behavior in the video, that it might be blind, deaf, or both, since it didn’t appear to react to the honking or surrounding noise the way dogs typically do. They credited the train driver for stopping regardless.

It’s worth noting these two firsthand-style accounts don’t fully agree on how events unfolded one describes the dog clearing the tracks on its own before the train resumed speed, the other describes the train staying stationary until a bystander moved the dog. Neither account has been independently verified.
Circumstances remain unconfirmed
No official statement from Central Railway or Mumbai Police has confirmed the incident or the dog’s condition. The reassurances currently circulating are based entirely on unverified comments from social media users who say they witnessed the incident or heard about it from others.
Still, for many following the story online, the comments have offered some relief a sense that caution from the loco pilot and quick action from a bystander may have kept the dog from harm, even if the full details remain unclear.
