An armed man was shot by The US Secret Service late on Sunday following a confrontation. Trump was not in the White House at the time of the incident as he was spending the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

The Secret Service said local authorities tipped Secret Service officials on Saturday that a suicidal person may be travelling to Washington from Indiana. Apart from this, it also informed that the suspect’s car was found from A block of the White House. They also saw the man on foot, which matched their description.

Confrontation occurred near the intersection of 17th Street and F Street NW – less than a five-minute walk from the White House, Sky News reported. The man, whose identity was not known, brandished a firearm as officers approached him and shots were fired shortly after midnight (local time). He was taken to an area hospital and his condition was not known, the Secret Service said.

Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi wrote on X that Secret Service personnel were involved in a shooting following an armed encounter with a person of interest shortly after midnight on March 9 at 17th and G Streets NW.

Metropolitan Police’s Internal Affairs Division was probing the incident. In August 2020, a 51-year-old man was shot by Secret Service officials while Trump, in his first term, was giving a press conference inside the West Wing. The suspect fired shots towards the White House before “running aggressively” towards Secret Service agents who shot the gunman in the torso.
