
Jorge Messi, the father of Lionel Messi, is said to have died at the age of 68 following a prolonged illness.
Nico Paz, Messi’s World Cup teammate, was one of the first to report the news. Paz said on Facebook, “Rest In Peace Jorge Messi”
Jorge’s medical condition was previously reported by Messi’s family during the just finished 2026 FIFA World Cup.
After the first goal, Messi was spotted crying, and during the post-match conversation, he disclosed that it had nothing to do with sport. Jorge was unwell, according to accounts in the Argentine media in the hours that followed.
“Jorge Messi is now dealing with a health issue, according to the Messi family. He is currently receiving medical attention, healing, and making good progress in his health, according to the statement.
Jorge, Lionel Messi’s father, was a major part of Messi’s path, supporting him from his early years in Rosario and later assisting in the direction of his illustrious off-field career.
The death of Messi’s father has also been covered by Argentine media, including the “Infobae” daily and the “Rosario3” network.
The same was covered by Catalonia Radio as well, although no formal statement has been made.
After Jorge’s death, his wife Cecila, sons Lionel, Rodrigo, and Matias, daughter Maria Sol, and several grandkids were left behind.
