US To Enforce Stricter Visa Filing Rules From July 10

New York : Applying for a US visa may soon become tougher, even because of a small paperwork mistake. Starting July 10 2026, US immigration authorities will have the power to deny visa and immigration applications if an officer later finds that the form carries an invalid signature.

Under the new policy introduced by the US Departement of Homeland Security (DHS), applications can now be rejected at any stage of processing if the signature does not meet official standards. Earlier, unsigned or incorrectly signed forms were usually returned during the initial filing stage, giving applicants a chance to fix the error and submit the documents again.

The updated rule changes that completely. Even after a form has been accepted and is under review, a USCIS adjudicator can still deny the request if the signature is found to be improper. In several cases, applicant may also lose the filing fees paid with the application.

The rule will apply o a wider range of immigration filings, including H-1B work visa petitions, green card applications, work permits , student related immigration requets, aslylum applications and citizenship filings.

US immigration authorities have clarified that only valid signatures will be accepted. Handwritten signatures, thumb impressions and approved electronic signatures submitted through officials USCIS system will remain valid. However, copied signatures, typed names, scanned signature images or digitally edited signatures could lead to rejection.

Immigration lawyers say the new measure could create serious problems for applicants, especially because there may not be an opportunity to correct the mistake after submission. Experts are advising individuals and employers to carefully review every immigration form before filing to avoid delays, denials and financial losses.

The stricter rule is part of a broader tightening of US immigration procedures in recent years, with authorities increasing scrutiny on documentation, background verification and application reviews.
