Trump Administration Seizes Venezuela Uranium Stockpile Amid Iran Nuclear Tensions

Washington:The administration of US President Donald Trump has reportedly secured a stockpile of highly enriched uranium from Venezuela, even as negotiations and tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme continue. According to a report by Firstpost, the uranium removal operation was carried out successfully with cooperation between the United States, Venezuela and allied international agencies.
Reports cited by international media stated that approximately 13.5 kilograms of highly enriched uranium were transported from Venezuela to a secure US Department of Energy facility in South Carolina. The operation has been described as a significant nuclear security development for the Trump administration.
The development comes at a time when the US government remains engaged in a prolonged standoff with Iran over Tehran’s stockpile of enriched uranium. President Donald Trump has repeatedly insisted that Iran surrender its enriched uranium reserves as part of broader negotiations aimed at limiting Iran’s nuclear capabilities. However, discussions between Washington and Tehran have so far failed to produce a final agreement.
According to reports, the US had previously explored possible plans to seize or neutralise Iran’s uranium stockpile through diplomatic or military means. International observers have closely monitored the issue due to concerns over uranium enrichment levels and the potential expansion of Iran’s nuclear programme.
The uranium recovered from Venezuela was reportedly linked to a research reactor project and had remained under international observation for several years. The operation is being viewed as a notable achievement for the Trump administration’s broader nuclear security strategy while diplomatic efforts with Iran continue.
The issue of enriched uranium remains one of the most sensitive aspects of ongoing US-Iran negotiations, with both sides continuing discussions amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the region.
