Mohali: A celebration organised to welceme four Nihang Sikhs after they were granted bail took an unexpected turn on Sunday when a scuffle broke out inside a gurudwara in Punjab’s Mohali district. The incident happened at Gurudwara Singh Shaheedan in Sohana, where a large number of people have gathered to recieve the four men.
The situation became tense after members of two groups got into an argument, which soon turned into a physical fight. Videos of the incident quickly surfaced on social media, showing people pushing and scuffling inside the gurdwara premises. Police reached the spot soon after and brought the situation under control.
Police officials said no one suffered any serious injuries in the clash. They also confirmed that no formal complaint has been filed so far. According to officials, legal action will be taken if any party approaches the police with a complaint.
The four Nihang Sikhs had recently secured bail in connection with the Karnaprayag clash in Uttarakhand. They were arrested after violence broke out in Karnaprayag on June 16 following an argument that escalated into a confrontation between Nihang Sikhs and local residents. Several people were injured during the incident.
Their arrest had sparked protests by Nihang Sikh groups in different parts of North India. Demonstrations were held in Uttarakhand and neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, where supporters demanded their immediate release and claimed the arrests were unfair.
Following their release on bail, the four men returned to Punjab, where a welcome ceremony was organised at the Mohali gurdwara. During the event, members of the Sikh community gathered to honour them, but celebrations were interrupted after tensions reportedly flared between two groups present at the venue.
Representatives associated with the Akal Takht were also present during the programme. They said that while the four Nihang Sikhs have been granted bail, the legal case related to the Karnaprayag incident is still pending and will continue in court.
Police said peace has now been restored at the gurdwara, and the situation remains under control. Authorities are keeping a close watch on developments and have appealed to people to maintain calm.
