Surat : Torrential monsoon rains continued to batter South Gujarat on Wednesday, leading to flooding, road closures and precautionary evacuations across several districts. In Valsad, authorities shifted 103 residents from low-lying areas to safer locations, while rising floodwaters forced the closure of 17 internal roads in Tapi district.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more heavy rainfall over parts of South Gujarat, prompting local administrations to remain on high alert and strengthen emergency preparedness. In Pardi taluka of Valsad district, continuous downpours inundated several residential pockets, forcing officials to evacuate 103 people from vulnerable areas. Rescue teams have been kept on standby as authorities closely monitor water levels and weather conditions.
The heavy rain also impacted railway infrastructure after soil erosion was reported near the railway tracks at Khadki village in Pardi taluka. In neighbouring Tapi district, widespread waterlogging led the Panchayat (Roads and Buildings) Department to temporarily shut 17 internal roads in Valod taluka as a safety measure. The affected stretches include the Nansad–Inma Butwada Road, Ranveri–Nalotha–Kelkui Road, and several village roads passing through Degama and Alagat, disrupting connectivity in the region.
Authorities across South Gujarat continue to monitor the flood situation closely, with disaster response teams deployed in vulnerable areas. Restoration work is being carried out wherever weather conditions permit, while residents have been advised to avoid waterlogged roads, overflowing rivers and submerged causeways until the rainfall subsides.
