New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bengaluru on Sunday to launch a series of big-ticket transport projects set to reshape the city’s connectivity. PM Modi started his day in the Silicon Valley of India by flagging off three new Vande Bharat trains. In a post on X ahead of his visit, PM Modi wrote, “Look forward to being among the people of Bengaluru tomorrow, August 10. From the KSR Railway Station, 3 Vande Bharat Express trains will be flagged off which will enhance connectivity.
The Prime Minister first flagged off three Vande Bharat Express trains at KSR Bengaluru Railway Station. These include the KSR Bengaluru–Belagavi service, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra–Amritsar service, and Nagpur (Ajni)–Pune service. With this, the total number of Vande Bharat trains in the country rises to 150. Karnataka now has 11 such trains, while Maharashtra, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir got a boost to their high-speed rail network.
Following the flag-off, PM Modi inaugurated the 19-kilometer-long Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra, which will connect key residential, commercial, and industrial hubs across 16 stations. Built at a cost of around Rs 7,160 crore under Phase-2 of the metro project, the Yellow Line will take Bengaluru’s operational metro network to over 96 km, benefiting lakhs of daily commuters. The Prime Minister will also take a metro ride from RV Road to Electronic City, one of the city’s busiest IT corridors.
In addition, Modi will lay the foundation stone for the ambitious Rs 15,610 crore Phase-3 of Bengaluru Metro. The project will add over 44 km of elevated tracks and 31 stations, further strengthening the city’s public transport infrastructure and easing congestion.
