Padma Awards 2026: Mammootty, R Madhavan, Alka Yagnik and Rohit Sharma Honoured by President Droupadi Murmu

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu conferred Padma Awards on several distinguished personalities from the fields of entertainment and sports during the second Civil Investiture Ceremony held at the Ganatantra Mandap of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other dignitaries. During the event, the President presented a total of 65 Padma Awards, including two Padma Vibhushan, six Padma Bhushan and 57 Padma Shri honours.

Among the prominent recipients from the entertainment and sports sectors were actors R Madhavan and Mammootty, playback singer Alka Yagnik, former India cricket captain Rohit Sharma and others.

R Madhavan Receives Padma Shri

Actor R Madhavan was awarded the Padma Shri for his contribution to Indian cinema. Known for acclaimed films such as Alai PayutheyRang De Basanti3 Idiots and Vikram Vedha, Madhavan received the honour from President Murmu at the ceremony.

His wife, Sarita Birje, and son, Vedaant Madhavan, were present at the event and were seen applauding proudly as the actor received the prestigious recognition.

Mammootty Conferred Padma Bhushan

Veteran actor Mammootty was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, for his contribution to films and entertainment.

The 74-year-old actor has enjoyed a celebrated career spanning Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi cinema. Over the decades, he has portrayed several memorable characters and continues to remain one of the most respected names in Indian cinema.

Alka Yagnik Honoured with Padma Bhushan

Renowned playback singer Alka Yagnik was conferred the Padma Bhushan for her contribution to Indian music.

The singer, who is currently battling a rare sensory neural nerve hearing loss condition, has remained away from the public spotlight in recent months. Yagnik’s voice has defined generations of Bollywood music, with iconic songs including Agar Tum Saath HoMera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai and Chand Chhupa Badal Mein.

Rohit Sharma Awarded Padma Shri

Former India captain Rohit Sharma received the Padma Shri in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian cricket.

One of the most successful batters in ODI cricket, Rohit led India to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai during his tenure as captain.

The Padma Awards are among India’s highest civilian honours and are presented annually to individuals for exceptional achievements across various fields, including art, public affairs, literature, education, sports, medicine and social work.
