New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the government acted immediately after the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak came to light, describing the incident as a “ghor paap” (grave sin). Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Centre moved swiftly to protect the interests of medical aspirants. He said 13 people accused in the paper leak case were arrested and sent to jail, while the government also decided to conduct a fresh NEET-UG examination to ensure fairness.
Rijiju said the government’s response was aimed at restoring confidence in the examination process and preventing similar incidents in the future. Quoting the Prime Minister, he said those responsible for the leak must face the strictest possible punishment to safeguard the credibility of public examinations and deter future misconduct.
The remarks come ahead of the Supreme Court’s hearing on a batch of petitions related to the NEET-UG paper leak. The petitioners have sought the dissolution of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and a court-monitored CBI investigation into the alleged leak.
The controversy erupted after the NTA released the provisional answer key on May 6, when students and coaching institutes claimed that a purported “guess paper” closely matched the actual question paper. Investigators later alleged that a handwritten question bank had circulated before the examination, particularly in Rajasthan, prompting the cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 on May 12 over concerns about the integrity of the test.
