New Delhi: Lok Sabha has passed Immigration and Foreigners Bill 2025 today. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said everyone wanting to visit India as a tourist or for education, healthcare and business is welcome, but those who pose a threat to the country will be dealt with sternly. Narendra Modi-led government would stop only those people who have malafide intentions to visit India, adding that the country was not a “dharmshala” (shelter).
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar Thursday rejected the Congress’s privilege motion against Union Minister Amit Shah Amit Shah for ‘aspersions’ on Sonia Gandhi over PM relief fund. Congress chief whip in Rajya Sabha Jairam Ramesh gave a notice for breach of privilege against Amit Shah for allegedly casting aspersions on RS member and Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi regarding the functioning of PM Relief Fund during his reply on a Bill Tuesday.
Baramulla Lok Sabha MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh alias Engineer Rashid is attending the Parliament Budget session today after the Delhi High Court allowed MP Engineer Rashid to attend Parliament on Wednesday. He was arrested in a terror funding case. Stating that MP owes to the people of his constituency the duty and responsibility to represent them in Parliament, the March 25 order by a division bench of Justices Chandra Dhari Singh and Anup Bhambhani said, “This court is confident, that subject to the conditions that the court proposes to impose by this order, the State machinery would be able to ensure the integrity of the appellant’s custody, so that he remains available to face trial.”
Citing an analysis, Gandhi sought to know why the delivery of financial assistance under the scheme had dipped drastically. “According to an informed analysis for 2022-23, about 68 per cent of pregnant women received at least one instalment of PMMVY for their first birth, but in the very next year, this proportion fell drastically to just around 12 per cent. I would like to ask the Union government, why was this allowed to happen?” Gandhi asked.
