Reddit Down: Social Media Platform Hit by Widespread Global Outage

The social media platform Reddit suffered a major outage on Tuesday, affecting thousands of users across several countries, including the United States and India. According to Downdetector, a website that tracks service disruptions, more than 20,000 user reports were filed in the US, while India recorded a peak of 521 reports on Tuesday evening.
Reddit promptly acknowledged the disruption on its official status page. In a statement, the company said, “The issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented. We are continuing to monitor for any further issues.” A subsequent update confirmed that the problem had been fully resolved.
This outage is the latest in a series of significant tech disruptions in recent weeks. It follows a major Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage on October 20 and a Microsoft Azure network failure just last week, highlighting a period of instability for major cloud infrastructure providers.
Recent String of Tech Outages
The recent AWS disruption, which impacted nearly a third of the internet, was traced back to a Domain Name System (DNS) error at its Northern Virginia data center. The issue, identified around 12:41 PM IST, took several hours to mitigate and fully resolve, with services returning to normal by that evening.
Similarly, Microsoft’s Azure outage last week was also attributed to DNS problems stemming from a faulty configuration change. According to Downdetector, over 18,000 users reported issues, with the disruption primarily affecting the Eastern United States.
