The India skipper has risen to the top of the ICC rankings for batsmen in the format thanks to his 188 runs in the three ODIs against England in mid-July and Daryl Mitchell’s injury-plagued absence from the previous two ODIs in the West Indies. Gill has been at the top of the ranking three times now. By the completion of the five-match series, Will Young (up three spots to joint-38th), Sherfane Rutherford (up 13 spots to 45th), and Tom Latham (up five spots to 46th) had all moved up, but Bernard Scholtz of Namibia was the major mover.
In CWC League 2 matches in Utrecht, Scholtz produced outstanding results of 10-2-21-1 against the Netherlands and 10-2-14-0 against Nepal, moving him up five spots to seventh in the bowling standings.
In the three-T20I series in Zimbabwe, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his ascent with a Player-of-the-Series performance, hitting 151 runs in three innings with a strike rate of 196.10. The hitter rose 230 spots to No. 48 on the leaderboard after just six games in the format (and in international cricket).
While Blessing Muzarabani (up 10 positions to 26th) and Ravi Bishnoi (up 31 spots to 41st) improved in the bowling rankings, Tilak Varma (up two spaces to sixth) and Shreyas Iyer (up seven spots to 24th) also advanced up the batters’ table.
