After the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chose not to extend his contract, India’s fielding coach T Dilip is scheduled to leave his position. The front-runner to succeed Dilip is Subhadeep Ghosh of the Centre of Excellence (CoE), who traveled to Zimbabwe with the Indian squad as the fielding coach.
“Yes. “His (Dilip’s) one-year extension has ended,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said to Cricbuzz. His last assignment with the Indian squad was the recent series in England. It was not possible to get in touch with Dilip for his remarks right away.
After Ryan ten Doeschate resigned as India’s assistant coach on July 14, as reported by Cricbuzz, Dilip is the second member of the Indian team’s support staff to leave.
In 2021, Dilip succeeded R Sridhar as India’s fielding coach and joined head coach Rahul Dravid’s support team, which also included Paras Mhambrey and Vikram Rathour. He was the only member of Rahul Dravid’s support staff still working in the backroom of current head coach Gautam Gambhir, having been kept on Rohit Sharma’s recommendation.
He began working as a support staff member for Gambhir in 2024, and his contract was initially valid until May 2025. He did, however, receive a temporary extension last year and went on tour with the Indian squad in England.
During India’s recent visits to Ireland and England, Dilip’s position as fielding coach came under intense examination as the Indian squad continued to spill routine catches.
When the Indian team visits Sri Lanka early next month, Dilip and ten Doeschate’s exits are anticipated to be officially announced. Ghosh will be the most recent member of Gambhir’s support team, which currently consists of Morne Morkel as bowling coach and Sitanshu Kotak as batting coach.
T Dilip will be replaced as fielding coach by Subhadeep Ghosh, expanding Team India’s support staff. Subhadeep’s maiden assignment with the senior men’s team will be during India’s two-Test series in Sri Lanka in August.
Subhadeep has represented Assam in domestic cricket. Born in Digboi, Assam, in 1968, he was a middle-order right-handed batsman and off-spinner.
In domestic cricket, he played for Assam and Railways.
In 17 First-Class and 17 List A matches, Ghosh amassed 316 and 307 runs, respectively. During the 1994–95 season, he participated in his first game in both formats.
