Former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has strongly refuted a widely circulated fake social media post that wrongly attributed a bitter statement to him about his marriage prospects and spun his recent wedding as revenge.
The misleading content claimed that Dhawan’s ex-wife had told him “no girl would ever marry me” after their divorce, and suggested his marriage to Sophie Shine was a pointed “befitting reply” to that supposed remark. The post quickly went viral, attempting to frame his new relationship as a comeback story rooted in past rejection.
Dhawan, who quietly married Shine in a private ceremony on February 21, 2026, in the presence of close friends and several former teammates, wasted no time setting the record straight. On February 23, he posted a clear denial on X (formerly Twitter), calling out the fabricated narrative.
“I have come across some posts on social media attributing a disappointing statement about my personal life,” he wrote. “I have never carried baggage from the past be it on the pitch or outside. I firmly believe in the power of positivity while respecting my past. This is a new chapter in my life filled with love and happiness.”

He thanked fans, friends, family, well-wishers and the media for their support, while directly appealing to people to stop creating and sharing “clickbait, insensitive and false statements” aimed purely at generating engagement.
Throughout his separation from Aesha Mukerji and the co-parenting of their son Zoravar, Dhawan has maintained a dignified silence, never resorting to public criticism of his former marriage. The fake posts appear to exploit the attention around his low-key relationship with Shine, which became official in 2025.
By addressing the misinformation head-on, the former cricketer has once again underlined his preference for positivity over drama and urged the online community to avoid sensationalising private milestones.
