Southampton (England): Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar, who recently emerged as the leading wicket-taker among all bowlers from India and Sri Lanka with 16 wickets during India’s Test tour of Sri Lanka, made his comeback to English county cricket after a gap of two and a half months — and made an immediate impact.
Playing for Warwickshire, Suthar claimed a total of seven Hampshire wickets across their two innings, helping his side secure a massive innings-and-129-run victory. Suthar had last played in June before making his successful Test debut for India.
Warwickshire posted 398 runs, with opener Rob Yates scoring a century — 109 runs. Soon after Hampshire began their innings, Suthar struck, clean-bowling opener Nick Gubbins for 22.
Suthar finished with three wickets for 42 runs in the innings. Ethan Bamber and Oliver Hannon-Dalby also claimed three wickets apiece, while international fast bowler Chris Woakes took one wicket.
Hampshire were bowled out for just 115 runs, forcing them to follow on. In the second innings, Suthar was even more effective, claiming four wickets for 52 runs. Woakes and Oliver Hannon-Dalby took two wickets each.
Suthar dominated the match throughout as Hampshire were eventually bowled out for 154 in their second innings. Warwickshire earned 22 points for the victory, while Hampshire received two points.
