Keven Pietersen Appointed As Specialist Mentor Of England’s White Ball Setup

In preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup, England’s men’s white-ball sides have hired former captain Kevin Pietersen as a specialist mentor.

The white-ball tour to Austalia will be his first task, followed by South Africa. In order to advance into the World Cup over the following 12 months, he will rejoin the team for the home series against Pakistan and New Zealand. Zimbabwe and Namibia will co-host the main ODI event, which will take place in South Africa, where he was born.

Along with Marcus Trescothick, Tim Southee, Sarah Taylor, and Jeetan Patel, Pietersen will be a part of Brendon McCullum’s coaching staff. He served as a mentor for the Delhi Capitals, an IPL team.

Pietersen said he was thrilled about the chance in an ECB statement:

“I am immensely proud to have been asked to help this team on their journey to win a World Cup in South Africa. Putting on the England uniform again for the first time since 2014 is a profound honour and a deeply special moment.

“We have an incredibly talented white-ball squad, and I am excited to get in the trenches and work relentlessly hard with these players to maximise their potential. To be a part of Brendon’s think tank over the next 12 months is a fantastic opportunity, and I cannot wait to get started.”

McCullum, the head coach of White-ball, praised Pietersen’s addition to the lineup, saying, “I have a great deal of respect for KP and what he’s accomplished in the game.” He has had a tremendous influence on English cricket, so it’s a great outcome that someone with his background, expertise, and stature wants to be a part of this team.

“I’m especially thrilled that our hitters will have the chance to train with him. Our players will greatly benefit from KP’s unique perspective on what it takes to perform at the highest level. I’m incredibly excited to collaborate with you because we’ve always respected one another and valued each other’s contributions to the game.
