Trent Bridge (Nottingham): India, champions of the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and winners of the last two editions in 2024 and 2026, endured the darkest day in their T20 International history on Tuesday after being humiliated by England at Trent Bridge.
Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer and the coaching of Gautam Gambhir, the world champions and the world’s No.1-ranked T20 side suffered their biggest-ever defeat in terms of runs.
After winning the toss, India invited world No.2 England to bat first. Powered by opener Phil Salt’s brilliant 70 off 44 balls, featuring three sixes and seven fours, England posted 201/7. In reply, India were bowled out for just 76 in 11.4 overs, suffering a crushing 125-run defeat.
It was India’s biggest defeat by runs in T20 Internationals. Before this, India had never lost a T20I by a margin of over 100 runs. Their previous worst defeat was by 80 runs against New Zealand in Wellington in 2019. The result marked a dramatic collapse for the reigning world champions.
India Must Win Both Remaining Matches to Level the Series
The fourth T20 will be played on Thursday from 10:00 PM (IST), while the fifth and final match is scheduled for Saturday from 7:00 PM (IST).
With a 2-0 lead, England cannot lose the series anymore. India must win both remaining matches to level the five-match series 2-2.

England captain Harry Brook did not even need to use two of his six bowling options, Sam Curran and Liam Dawson.
Josh Tongue starred with four wickets for England, while Jofra Archer claimed three. Spinner Adil Rashid picked up two wickets and Will Jacks added one.
Long List of Batting Failures
Apart from Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ishan Kishan, the rest of India’s batting line-up also failed miserably.
