Shapoor Zadran, former fast bowler for Afghanistan, died on Tuesday, July 8, at the age of 38 following a prolonged illness. Zadran had been suffering from an immune system condition called hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). For several months, he was receiving treatment in the Delhi-NCR area.
His death was tragically announced by the Afghanistan Cricket Board on X.
One of the pillars of Afghan cricket, Shapoor Zadran’s devotion, enthusiasm, and steadfast commitment were essential to the game’s growth and development in our nation. He was one of the proud cricket players who paved the way for Afghan cricket to reach the global arena and stood at the center of the country’s early cricket history, according to ACB.
Between 2009 and 2020, Zadran took 43 wickets in 44 ODIs and 37 wickets in 36 T20Is throughout his ten-year international career. Additionally, Zadran is renowned for hitting the winning runs in Afghanistan’s historic victory against Scotland in the 2015 ODI World Cup.
Beyond his on-field accomplishments, Shapoor Zadran served as a genuine inspiration to many young Afghan cricket players and cricket fans worldwide. His perseverance, tenacity, and passion for the game inspired a generation to dream greater and have faith in Afghan cricket’s future, according to an ACB statement.
