Ahmedabad: Gujarat Titans (168/5 in 20 overs) bundled out Sunrisers Hyderabad (86 all out in 14.5 overs) for their lowest-ever total at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Tuesday to clinch a crushing 82-run victory in this low-scoring encounter and virtually seal a playoff berth. It was Gujarat’s biggest victory margin in IPL history. Their previous best winning margin had been 77 runs.
Not a single Hyderabad batter, a side regarded as a batting powerhouse, could even score 20 runs. Captain Pat Cummins top-scored with 19. Gujarat moved to the top of the table with 16 points, while Hyderabad, who had occupied the No.1 spot for many days, slipped to third place behind Bengaluru.
The Gujarat players took the field in lavender jerseys to spread awareness about cancer. Gujarat’s batting performance was below par overall, but their bowlers later produced a dominant display. The analysis of Gujarat’s four successful bowlers was as follows: Kagiso Rabada (4-0-28-3), Jason Holder (4-0-20-3), Prasidh Krishna (3-0-23-3) and Rashid Khan (0.5-0-3-1).

After Gujarat posted 168 for five, Hyderabad completely collapsed, losing four wickets for just 34 runs inside six overs. Siraj gave Gujarat the breakthrough by dismissing Travis Head for a duck, after which Kagiso Rabada ripped through the batting line-up. Rabada removed Abhishek Sharma (6), wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan (11) and Ravichandran Smaran (9) in a fiery three-over spell. Hyderabad were struggling at 44 for four in the eighth over.
The slide continued as Hyderabad lost two more wickets at 56, and shortly afterwards the innings folded up completely. Heinrich Klaasen (14) and Nitish Reddy (2) also failed to rescue Hyderabad, with both falling to Holder.

Earlier, after Hyderabad opted to field first, Gujarat made a poor start and were struggling at 26 for two in 5.1 overs. However, they recovered to post 168 for five in 20 overs, setting Hyderabad — known for their explosive batting — a target of 169.
Opener Sai Sudharsan scored 61 off 44 balls with two sixes and five fours, while Washington Sundar also struck a half-century, making 50 off 33 balls with one six and seven fours. However, apart from captain Shubman Gill (5) and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler (7), no other batter could cross even 25 runs, leaving Hyderabad with a modest chase target of 169. Hyderabad’s Praful Hinge and Saqib Hussain claimed two wickets each.
