Brazil’s all-time leading scorer ends his international career with 80 goals
New York: Brazil suffered a 1-2 defeat against Norway in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 on Monday, and shortly after the heartbreaking loss, Brazilian superstar Neymar Junior announced his retirement from international football after struggling with injuries. Brazil’s only goal in the match came from Neymar, who converted a penalty.
Neymar was seen sitting on the pitch in tears after Brazil’s shocking defeat. His teammates consoled him before helping him off the field. While he has retired from international football, Neymar has not yet decided whether he will continue playing professional club football.
‘It Is Now Over’ – Neymar Ends His International Journey
The 34-year-old brought the curtain down on a magnificent 16-year international career. Announcing his retirement, Neymar simply said, “It is now over.”
His unexpected decision has left millions of football fans around the world disappointed. Speaking after the match, Neymar said, “I tried everything to continue my career, but I have finally made my decision. I started my journey here at MetLife Stadium in New York, and I have ended it here as well.”
