India’s Boxers Deliver 10 Of Nation’s 39 Commonwealth Games Medals

Glasgow: Sunday marked the 11th and final day of the 23rd Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Scotland, where Indian athletes wrapped up their campaign on a high after a remarkable surge in the closing stages of the competition. By Sunday evening, India had secured a total of 39 medals, with the country’s boxers contributing 10 of them. The boxing contingent won seven gold and three silver medals. On Saturday alone, India captured an impressive 16 medals, emerging as one of the standout nations of the Games. That outstanding performance propelled India from the lower half of the standings to fourth place in the final medal table.

Compared to the 2022 Commonwealth Games’s 61 medals, India finished with fewer medals this time because five medal-rich sports were not part of the Glasgow 2026 programme. Despite that, exceptional performances in boxing, athletics, judo, para athletics and weightlifting ensured that India once again occupied fourth place in the standings by the end of the Games.

India finished its campaign with 39 medals, comprising 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze. Australia topped the medal table with 158 medals, including 65 gold, while England finished second with 102 medals, including 26 gold. Canada claimed third place with a total of 59 medals, featuring 18 gold medals.

India dominated the boxing competition, with the women boxers producing a sensational display on Saturday. Five women boxers, along with two male boxers, combined to win seven gold medals for the country. It was the finest-ever boxing performance by Indian pugilists in Commonwealth Games history.
