Indian Women Boxers Shine Before Men Join the Golden Charge; India Reaches 13 Gold Medals at Commonwealth Games
Glasgow: Indian women boxers stole the show on the 10th day of the 11-day Commonwealth Games as five women clinched gold medals one after another until late Saturday night. Their remarkable performances were followed by two Indian men also winning gold, taking India’s tally to 13 gold medals and 39 overall medals at the Games.
Sachin Siwach and Ankush Win Comfortably
India’s Sachin Siwach defeated Namibia’s Tryagain Ndevelo 3-2 in the final of the men’s 60kg category to win the gold medal. India’s second men’s boxing gold came through Ankush Panghal, who beat England’s Dimeji Shittu 4-1 in the final of the 80kg category.

India won a total of five gold medals in women’s boxing through Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Sakshi Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas and Arundhati Chaudhary. The Central Government, along with Indian athletics legend and Indian Olympic Association President P. T. Usha, congratulated Sakshi and all the Indian boxers for their outstanding achievements.
Seven of India’s 13 Gold Medals Have Come in Boxing
India climbed from sixth to fourth place in the Commonwealth Games medals table on Saturday, matching its previous edition’s ranking. By Sunday morning, India had collected a total of 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze. Remarkably, seven of India’s 13 gold medals have come from boxing alone.
