Abhishek’s Storm in Delhi: Record-Breaking Century — Know Which Records He Has Broken

New Delhi: India’s left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma produced an extraordinary T20 innings against Afghanistan, rewriting several records in the process. He has become the fastest centurion in T20 international matches played between major cricketing nations (ICC Full Members). Abhishek completed his century in just 30 balls. He reached the landmark with 10 sixes and nine fours.

The record for the fastest century in T20 internationals overall belongs to Estonia’s Indian-origin batter Sahil Chauhan, who smashed a 27-ball hundred against Cyprus. However, when it comes to T20I matches between major cricketing nations, New Zealand’s Finn Allen previously held the record with his 33-ball century against South Africa. Abhishek has now broken that record with his 30-ball hundred.

Abhishek has also broken Rohit Sharma’s record for the fastest T20I century by an Indian. Rohit had smashed a 35-ball century against Sri Lanka in 2017, a record that had remained untouched among Indian batters for nine years. Abhishek has now surpassed it.

Abhishek was eventually dismissed for 108 off 34 balls. His blistering knock included 11 sixes and nine fours. He was caught by wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz off the bowling of spinner Rashid Khan.

While Sanju Samson was batting on 34, Abhishek had already returned to the pavilion after scoring his 108 off 34 balls. The pair had added 142 runs for their partnership in just 9.5 overs.

At the end of the 13th over, India’s score stood at 164 for two, with Samson unbeaten on 50. After Abhishek’s dismissal, Tilak Varma was run out for two.
