Prison Chief Transferred, 2 Others Suspended Over Viral Videos Of Inmates Partying

Bengaluru : The Karnataka government has dismissed senior prison officials after back-to-back videos exposed illegal activities and VIP treatment inside Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison. A video, allegedly from a week ago, shows inmates singing, dancing, and shouting “party all night” while using plates and mugs as instruments.

The government will not tolerate it at any cost,” Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said before a review meeting, adding that officers responsible would face strict action. “If this goes on then why should we call it a prison?” he remarked, stressing that violations at the state’s main jail were unacceptable. The minister said suspensions and FIRs have already been initiated, and more steps will follow after reviewing inputs.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi accused the Congress government of turning the prison into a sleeper cell for extremists, claiming inmates enjoyed “luxurious amenities. Home Minister G Parameshwara convened a high-level meeting with the DGP, senior prison officials and Bengaluru Commissioner and said some videos were old but several appeared recent. He announced a one-month high-powered inquiry committee headed by ADGP Jitendra with IG Sandeep Patil, SP Amarnath Reddy and SP Rishanth, supported by district officials, to examine the lapses.

Parameshwara said the DGP, ADGP (Prisons) and superintendents of all major jails were summoned for a high-level review. Parameshwara detailed new measures including a central command centre to monitor live CCTV feeds from all jails, technical audits, enhanced jammers and scanners, relocation of jail staff and bifurcation of inmates to prevent collusion inside the prison. Recruitment for 983 warders and 70 jailers will be fast-tracked.
