Teen Sets Teacher Ablaze in Madhya Pradesh Over Unrequited Love

In a disturbing incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Narsinghpur district, an 18-year-old student allegedly set a 26-year-old guest teacher on fire, driven by unreciprocated feelings. The attack occurred in the Kotwali police station area, leaving the victim with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The accused, identified by PTI as Suryansh Kochar, a former student of Excellence School where the victim recently joined as a guest teacher, reportedly acted out of resentment. Police sources, stated that Kochar’s actions stemmed from a grudge after the teacher lodged a complaint against him for an inappropriate remark about her attire during the school’s Independence Day event on August 15. The teacher, dressed in a saree, reported the comment to school authorities, escalating tensions.

On Monday at around 3:30 p.m., Kochar allegedly arrived at the teacher’s residence armed with a bottle of petrol. Without warning, he poured the fuel on her, ignited it, and fled. The victim sustained burns covering 10–15 percent of her body and was immediately taken to the district hospital for treatment. Doctors confirmed her condition, while serious, is stable.

School Principal GS Patel, quoted by PTI, noted that the victim had been employed as both a lab technician and guest teacher for just six weeks. He described the incident as shocking to the school community. Police investigations revealed that Kochar, who had known the teacher for over two years, harbored a one-sided emotional attachment, fueling his actions, per PTI.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Sandeep Bhuria, cited by PTI, confirmed Kochar’s arrest and stated that a case has been registered. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the motives behind this violent act. The incident has sparked widespread concern, highlighting issues of personal grudges escalating to extreme violence in educational settings.
