IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Lucknow Following Onboard Bomb Threat

An IndiGo Airlines flight operating between Delhi and Bagdogra was diverted for an emergency landing at Lucknow airport on Sunday morning after a bomb threat was detected onboard, triggering a full-scale security response.

According to police officials, the threat surfaced when a handwritten message claiming the presence of a bomb was discovered on a tissue paper inside the aircraft’s lavatory during the flight. Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajneesh Verma confirmed that the aircraft was immediately instructed to divert as a precautionary measure.

Air traffic control received information about the threat at approximately 8:46 am on January 18. The aircraft landed safely at Lucknow airport at 9:17 am. Following standard safety protocol, the plane was moved to an isolation bay upon arrival.

Security agencies, including bomb disposal squads and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, cordoned off the aircraft and initiated a thorough inspection. All passengers were safely evacuated before the search operation began.

Officials stated that the flight was carrying 230 passengers comprising 222 adults and eight infants along with two pilots and five crew members. No injuries were reported, and authorities said the situation was under continuous monitoring as verification procedures continued.

The incident comes weeks after a separate bomb threat was reported during the Christmas period involving Flynas flight XY 325 at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. In that case, a threat email sent to the airport’s customer support address led to enhanced security checks after the aircraft landed safely, with officials confirming that all mandatory safety protocols were followed.

Investigations into the Lucknow incident are ongoing, and officials have not disclosed further details at this stage.
