Jaipur School Tragedy: 11-Year-Old Girl’s Fatal Plunge Sparks Outrage Over Teacher’s Conduct

JAIPUR: A sixth-grade student at Neerja Modi School in Jaipur’s Mansarovar area plunged to her death from the fourth floor on Friday, in what authorities suspect was a deliberate act of suicide triggered by distress over a teacher’s behavior.

The 11-year-old, an only child, was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where medical staff pronounced her dead on arrival, Mansarovar Station House Officer Lakhan Khatana confirmed to reporters on Saturday.

Police have launched a thorough probe, scrutinizing CCTV footage to reconstruct the moments before the fall. Forensic teams collected evidence from the scene, and a post-mortem examination is underway at Jaipuria Hospital, attended by the grieving parents and relatives.

Abhishek Jain, spokesperson for the Joint Parents Association, described the incident as a clear case of suicide linked to classroom mistreatment. “We’ve interviewed several students who revealed the girl was deeply upset by a teacher’s actions,” Jain told PTI. He accused school officials of tampering with evidence by hastily cleaning the area and criticized lax safety protocols in private institutions.

“Neither the government nor schools treat security seriously until tragedy strikes,” Jain added, calling for parental representation on school committees to voice concerns and prevent future lapses.

Rajasthan School Education Minister Madan Dilawar expressed profound sorrow and ordered the district education officer to deliver a detailed report. “Adequate security measures appear to have been absent, which the administration must address,” he stated.

Investigators emphasized that the precise cause will only emerge upon completion of the inquiry, as they piece together statements from students, staff, and family.

The heartbreaking episode has reignited debates on student mental health and accountability in educational settings, leaving the community in shock and demanding swift reforms.
